Dům

Obrázek
Dům na kraji lesa  Bylo jí devatenáct. Jemu padesát čtyři. Dům stál na konci ulice, kde už asfalt přecházel v prašnou cestu. Za plotem šuměl les. Večer voněl mokrou trávou, chladným dřevem verandy a psem, který celý den ležel u prahu, jako by dům hlídal i ve spánku. Klára přijela na tři týdny. Měla uklízet, vařit, venčit. Nic víc. Pokoj nahoře. Zámek ve dveřích. Ráno káva, večer ticho. Tak to slíbil. První dny to tak i vypadalo. On mluvil málo. Stála v kuchyni v tenkém triku a domácích kraťasech. Vlasy měla sčesané do culíku. Na lince krájel citron. Šťáva jí stekla po zápěstí. Pes přišel sám. Položil čumák na její stehno. Teplý. Mokrý. „Jdi pryč,“ zašeptala. Pes nezměnil nic. Jen funěl. Dech jí ohříval kůži nad kolenem. Ze dveří se ...

The classroom was silent.

Obrázek
The classroom was silent.   Afternoon sun filtered through the dusty windows, painting long strips of light across the wooden desks. The air smelled of chalk and old wood. She stood by the first desk.   Black hair pulled tightly into a neat bun, a few strands escaping and resting against her neck. The white shirt with rolled-up sleeves was only slightly unbuttoned at the collar — just enough to reveal the soft line of her collarbone and the shadow between her breasts. The red plaid mini skirt barely covered the curve of her hips. Black knee-high socks and shiny high-heeled pumps completed the picture, as if someone had accidentally left a camera rolling in an empty school. She leaned one hand on the edge of the desk. The other rested on her thigh, fingers lightly gripping the fabric of the skirt. Her back was arched, hips pushed back. She glanced over her shoulder. “You’re still watching,” she said quietly. Her voice carried something between a reprimand and an...

Take Care

Obrázek
Take Care He says it automatically, at the end of a call, at the door, in the hallway, whenever two paths split apart. The words come out before he can think them through, they trigger themselves, like a light switching on from motion. Nobody called them. They arrived on their own. They mean nothing specific. They wish nothing definite, no health, no happiness, no particular thing he actually wants for the other person. It's a sound that fills the gap where a real goodbye should be, and nobody notices, because everyone knows that sound and expects it in the same place every time. He uses it on a coworker he barely knows and on someone he genuinely cares about. The difference between them disappears into the same phrase, as if it didn't matter who those words belonged to. Two different people, one identical echo. Words that were supposed to carry weight get brushed against the teeth and vanish before they mean anything at all. A real wish requires attention. It requires knowing...

Confidence That Wounds

Confidence That Wounds You know the type. Someone walks into a room and it's immediately clear who's going to do most of the talking and who's going to listen. At first it looks like strength. After a while you notice that in their presence you feel smaller, quieter, more cautious. And they never noticed, because as far as they're concerned, they were just sharing the truth. Excessive confidence is often mistaken for the opposite of insecurity. The reality is different. People who come across as overly confident often hide deep insecurities underneath. For them, confidence isn't a natural state, it's a mask and a weapon they use to defend themselves against the world. The louder someone insists on their own infallibility, the more likely they're compensating for a feeling they'll never admit out loud. Such people overestimate their own judgment and are more certain of it than the facts warrant. The less someone actually knows, the more certain they often...

Night

Night does things to people that they won't admit in the day. When it's dark, when they think nobody is watching, they become another version of themselves. A man cries. Legally, without guilt, without feeling he should be strong. A woman looks at something she would hide deep in daylight. A person drinks or smokes or does things they won't admit to themselves. Night is safety. Night is the place where the things a person won't allow themselves in daylight can happen. You're not at risk. Only night sees you. Night doesn't tell. Night won't remember you. That's a lie they tell themselves. Night sees everything. Every tear, every move, every thing you take and put in your mouth. Night sees how you behave when you think you won't have to answer for it. And then the person becomes who they really are. Not who they pretend to be in daylight. In daylight you perform. At night you feel. In daylight you wear a mask. At night you take it off. The worst part ...

Kdo to určuje? A kdyby to nebylo normální, co bys pak měl? Nejsi ten, kdo to mluví. Nejsi ten, kdo to určuje.

A znovu. A neděláš nic.
